The monument and its history The basilica of Santa María de Eunate is in the heart of the district of Muruzabal, in the Navarra province, Spain, directly on the St. James Way.This emblematic construction dates back to the late-12th century. Its origin is attributed to the Order of the Knights Templar, and its purpose was to attend to the needs of the pilgrims who were making their way towards Santiago de Compostela.The ground plan is octagonal, and facing east a pentagonal apse is attached that forms the chapel.
