Trumpeter P-51B Mustang III The P-51 project began in 1940. It took only 120 days from the UK to request the development of the prototype machine. The Royal Air Force called the new aircraft a “wild horse.” In December 1943, P-51B joined the station in England. The US Army Air Force 9th Army 354 Fighter Wing began its legendary service career. At the same time, some P-51Bs were assigned to the 12th and 15th Army of the Army in Italy. Before the official service of the P-51D, the P-51B has been one of the main models of the US Army's European battlefield. Some air teams have even been equipped with this type of aircraft until the end of the war. During the entire war, the number of tasks performed by the Type B fighters accounted for one-third of the entire P-51 family's mission.
